Privacy Policy

Last updated: 7 October 2026

This policy explains what personal data IELTS Today ("we", "us") collects when you use ieltstoday.uk, how we use it, and the choices you have. If anything here is unclear, email contact@ieltstoday.uk.

What we collect

  • Account details. When you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address and Google account identifier. If you set a target band or test date, we store those too.
  • Your practice work. Answers, essays, speaking recordings, scores, feedback, notes and highlights, study-plan items, and any book reviews you post.
  • Technical data. A session cookie that keeps you signed in, and your IP address and request logs, which we use for security and to rate-limit abuse.
  • Data on your device. To make tests work offline, the app stores test content and your in-progress attempts in your browser's storage (IndexedDB, local storage and the service worker cache).

We don't use advertising, and we don't use third-party analytics or tracking cookies. We don't sell your personal data.

How we use it

  • To run the service: save your attempts, score them and show your results.
  • To generate Writing and Speaking feedback (see below).
  • To show your progress and build your study plan.
  • To keep the service secure, prevent abuse and fix problems.
  • To reply when you contact us.

AI feedback

Writing and Speaking feedback is generated by AI. To score an attempt, we send the task prompt and the text of your answer (your essay, or a transcript of your speaking recording) to our AI provider, Anthropic, through the Claude API. We don't include your name or email address. Anthropic processes this content only to return the assessment to us and, under its commercial terms, doesn't use it to train its models.

AI feedback can be wrong. It's a practice estimate, not an official IELTS result.

Service providers

We use these providers to run IELTS Today. Each one processes data only on our behalf:

  • Cloudflare: hosting, content delivery and storage of speaking recordings.
  • Turso: our database.
  • Google: sign-in.
  • Anthropic: AI feedback on Writing and Speaking.

These providers may process data outside your country. We use providers that protect personal data under their contractual commitments.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and practice history while your account is open. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep it.

Your choices and rights

  • Email contact@ieltstoday.uk to access, correct, export or delete your data, or to object to how we use it. We reply within 30 days.
  • You can clear the data stored on your device from the Offline storage page in your account, or from your browser settings.
  • You can revoke IELTS Today's access to your Google account in your Google account settings.

Children

IELTS Today is meant for people aged 16 and over, the minimum age IELTS recommends for test takers. If you believe a child under 16 has given us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll also tell you in the app before it takes effect.
